We categorize our materials into three classes, determined by the certified calculation of the actual Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) from production to the customer.

Our most advanced materials with a focus on the best possible CO2 reduction. The entire materials expertise of thyssenkrupp Materials Europe with the smallest possible CO2 footprint. Products in this class are characterised by the most advanced technology, such as the optimised direct reduction and electric arc process (DR-EAF) and the electric arc process (EAF), as well as high recycling efficiency.

Experience premium-quality materials from our Classic product line with trackable CO2 reduction. Benefit from a balanced price-to-sustainability ratio with our Partial-emissions optimized products. Our production methods include the optimized blast furnace process (BF-BOF), direct reduction with optional melting in an electric arc furnace (DR-EAF), and substitution of scrap for iron ore.

Our materials represent the highest quality and decades of experience. They are produced in established large-scale facilities, tailored precisely to meet customer specifications. Conventional production methods such as the oxygen blow moulding process are primarily used in primary steel production.

Under our greenability transparency framework, we provide certified calculations of Product Carbon Footprints (PCF). Our calculations take into account the total emissions of our products, including finished or semi-finished parts and components you purchase, using the cradle-to-gate approach, from production to delivery to your factory gate. This information ensures you have the security to make optimal decisions.

Approaches for measuring CO2 emissions along the supply chain

Emissions are monitored through direct measurements and data collection across the entire supply chain. Data on energy consumption, transportation, raw materials, etc., is collected and compared for offsetting purposes.

We utilize a mathematical model to calculate emissions based on economic activities across different sectors. This model considers sector interconnections and allows for a comprehensive analysis of the entire value chain.

The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) evaluates the environmental impact of a product or service from inception to disposal. It considers not just CO2 emissions, but also aspects like resource usage, waste generation, and air pollution.
